The Sacred Dimensions of Care: A Workshop for Caregivers with Roy Remer
Sunday, October 4 @ 10am PT/ 1pm ET
LIVE via Zoom
How can we sustain ourselves—heart, body, and spirit—while accompanying others through serious illness and life’s final passage? This three-hour experiential workshop invites end-of-life volunteers, professional caregivers, and family members to deepen the spiritual dimensions of their practice.

Led by Roy Remer and based on his recently released book, Zen Caregiving: Caring for Yourself While Caring for Others (New World Library, 2026), this session weaves teaching, guided meditation, and group dialogue to illuminate three essential elements of sacred care:

  • Present Moment Awareness: Using the body to find calm, focused attention and connecting beyond the individual self.
  • Discovering the Compassionate Heart: Exploring service as a sacred act, navigating the stages of compassion, and addressing barriers that arise.
  • Befriending Impermanence: Engaging with loss, balancing personal grief with holding space for others, and moving toward gratitude.

The workshop will include short presentations, guided meditations, experiential exercises, and readings to anchor the teachings. Join us for this time of reflection and renewal in the sacred work of caregiving.

Roy Remer has worked as an educator and end-of-life caregiver since 1997 and serves as executive director of the Zen Caregiving Project in San Francisco. He is the lead creator of the Mindful Caregiving Education curriculum, a student in the Soto Zen tradition at San Francisco Zen Center, and a certified Compassion Cultivation Training instructor through Stanford University’s Center for Compassion and Altruism Research and Education and the Compassion Institute.
