About Rick Mendius, MD: Rick is a neurologist in practice in Santa Rosa, California and co-founder of the Wellspring Institute for Neuroscience and Contemplative Wisdom. His professional journey began at UCLA, where he trained in neurology, epileptology, and neurobehavior. He has practiced in Los Angeles, Portland, and in the Bay Area. Since 1994, he has been in Marin and Sonoma counties in a general neurology practice. He has been on the teaching faculty of UCLA, Oregon Health Sciences University, and Stanford University. His interest in End of Life/ Medical Aid-in-Dying grew from his experiences in caring for patients with prolonged illnesses and profound central nervous system degenerative disease. His meditation practice began with Shinzen Young in Los Angeles, has moved through Spirit Rock with Jack Kornfield and Ajahn Amaro, to his current main teacher, Adyashanti. Rick continues to work with patients navigating illness and end-of-life issues today.
