About Krishna Das: Few figures in modern spirituality, particularly in the West, have impacted the hearts and minds of contemporary seekers as Krishna Das has. A devotee of the North Indian Saint, Neem Karoli Baba (Maharajji), Krishna Das has played an enormous role in popularizing the traditional practice of kirtan in the West, and has evolved into an accessible teacher, although perhaps a reluctant one, and a spiritual friend to many along the way. He presents chanting workshops around the world that include musical accompaniment, meditation instruction, readings from different spiritual traditions, and teachings and discussions about the spiritual path.
A long-time student of Ram Dass and Maharajji, KD lived in India for almost three years in the early 1970s. His heart was especially drawn to the practice of bhakti yoga—the yoga of devotion. Maharajji led him deeper and deeper into the practice of kirtan—chanting the names of God. As an appointed pujari (priest) for the Durga temple in Maharajji’s ashram in the foothills of the Himalayas, Krishna Das immersed himself in the worship of the Divine Goddess. KD spent as much time as possible with Maharajji over the years in India, opening himself to the flow of grace and purifying his heart. Early in 1973, he was asked by Maharajji to return to America. Since then, KD has been chanting on a regular basis in yoga centers all over the world. He has taught with Ram Dass and sung for many saints and yogis here and in India.
